Su Nuraxi di Barumini is the largest and most complex nuraghe in Sardinia, a multi-tower Bronze Age structure surrounded by a village of approximately 200 huts, its defensive circuit enclosing a settlement that was continuously occupied from the Middle Bronze Age through the Roman period. The construction quality of the oldest nuraghe tower, in large limestone blocks without mortar, exceeds that of every later addition and modification, the devolution from Bronze Age ambition to Roman reuse directly readable in the surviving fabric. Formal acoustic measurements have documented resonance properties in the corbelled chambers consistent with deliberate sound design in the Nuragic tradition.
