Selge is a remote ancient city at approximately 1,000 metres in the western Taurus Mountains, accessible only by mountain road, its theatre and agora surviving in a pastoral landscape that has changed little since the city was abandoned. The Greek defensive circuit wall displays mortarless construction in the local limestone, metal clamp recesses reinforcing the joints at significant cost in metal transport to an isolated mountain site where supply logistics alone make the seismic reinforcement programme remarkable. Projecting stone bosses on the major construction elements are visible throughout. The Oluk Bridge spanning the Köprüçay gorge on the approach to the city is one of the finest Roman single-arch bridges in Turkey.
