Two Talayotic towers on a commanding position above Es Migjorn Gran — the monumental north talayot characterised by its access ramp to the upper level, the south talayot by an internal corridor leading to a chamber. From the top of the north tower, at least twenty prehistoric sites were visible across the surrounding landscape, confirming the strategic and symbolic dominance these structures were built to project.

Heavy Erosion

The towers at Binicrodell de Darrere show heavy surface erosion across the exposed limestone faces — deep surface dissolution, edge rounding, and lichen colonisation on the largest structural blocks. As with the other Talayotic monuments on Menorca, the degree of weathering is more pronounced than the official c. 1000 BCE construction date alone would predict, leaving open the question of whether the site is older than currently attributed.

Large Monoliths

Both talayots at Binicrodell de Darrere are built from substantial limestone blocks in their lower and outer courses. The north talayot — the more monumental of the two — incorporates large outer wall stones that individually required organised labour and mechanical advantage to quarry, transport, and position. The concentric construction system, with large outer blocks restraining smaller inner fill, places the heaviest logistical demands on the outermost course, which is also the most exposed to weathering and the most depleted by spoliation.

Polygonal Jigsaw

The talayot towers at Binicrodell de Darrere are built from concentric rings of limestone blocks — a construction system that, in the better-preserved sections, reveals individual block fitting that exceeds the tolerance of simple dry-stone stacking. The concentric wall system, where each ring supports the next and the whole structure must be internally coherent to remain stable, required more careful stone selection and placement than its weathered exterior suggests. As with other Talayotic towers on Menorca, heavy erosion may be masking what was originally a finer standard of fitting.

Subterranean Complexes

The south talayot at Binicrodell de Darrere contains an internal corridor leading to a chamber carved within or beneath the tower structure. This interior passage — accessing a roofed interior space via a narrow entrance — places the south talayot within the category of constructed underground or enclosed complexes, comparable in scale if not in extent to the inner chambers documented at other megalithic sites. The access corridor and chamber are the defining features that distinguish this talayot from a purely solid tower construction.
